While the demand for a Metroid Prime remaster is definitely high, it's worth keeping in mind that these are simply rumors for the time being. In fact, rumors from last year suggested that a reworked Metroid Prime had finished development over summer. That would perfectly explain how the original is rumored to feature revamped controls better suited for today. The game spawned mulitple spin-offs and sequels, many of which released on the Nintendo DS. My educated guess leads me to believe that Metroid Prime 1 is being remade while the two sequels are being remastered.
